I'll Do Anything Part 7 Heero shrugged into his room and closed the door behind him. It was quiet in here. There was no noise. No nonsense talking. No crowd of people, but mostly no Relena. He trodded over to his bed and laid down. He was thoroughly exhausted. Mentally and physically. All evening, he's been arguing with Relena. In fact the whole week they have been bickering back and forth, and his having to share a room with Duo didn't help anything. It only made things worst. Not only had Relena been on his back about everything, but his mind wouldn't obey him. It refused to allow any thought that didn't refer to Duo in any form. Even his eyes had a hard time ignoring the American. All throughout dinner, he had been glimpsing at his ex. Tugging at his tie, he glanced at the clock sitting on the night stand. It was nearly four in the morning. All the other guests have went to bed well over three hours ago. Heero would have too, except Relena seemed to have been in a fighting mood all day. Suddenly something caught his attention. Pale moonlight drifted from the open balcony. Curious, Heero stood up. He pulled his tie off and threw it on the night stand as he walked out onto the balcony. At first nothing seemed out of sort. He stared into the deep pool just below. Tears brimmed his eyes as he tried to force back his thoughts, but he couldn't help it. Looking at the pool reminded him of all the times he and Duo used to sneak out sometime near this hour and skinny dip. Sometimes they made love in the pool, but mostly after teasing each other awhile, they would head to the pool shed. In fact there weren't too many places on the vas estate that they hadn't pleased each other at one point or another. Figuring he might find comfort in sleep, Heero turned to go back inside. As he did so, he noticed a figure curled into a tight ball in the corner. It was Duo. Heero stared at him a moment, waiting for him to say something, but he didn't. In fact, he was asleep. How the American could sleep on the hard balcony floor was beyond him, especially in the position he was curled in. Kneeling next to the small frame, Heero scooped the braided sleeper into his arms. Duo's cheek lightly fell against his broad chest and he couldn't help but stop and stare at the slumbering features. This felt so right. So natural. Heero could feel his heart begin to beat near out of his chest. His pulse began to race and he temporarily forgot how to breath. Duo seemed to fit perfectly into his arms, the way he always did. Just for a moment, the hands of time rewind to ten years ago. When they were both younger and very much in love. Where nothing mattered but them. There was no Relena. Before they wasted a good portion of their lives. Before that night. Tears burst through the colbat dam. He wanted that again. He wanted them to be the way they were instead of what they are. Maybe things have changed. Maybe they could possibly be Duo and Heero once again. He knew he had changed, but did Duo? As lightly as he could, he traced Duo's lips with his index finger. The next thing he knew, his lips were on Duo's. He tried to pull away as he realized what he was doing, but he couldn't. He didn't care if the other woke up at that very instant and caught him stealing the kiss. In truth, that's what he wanted, maybe then he could beg for another chance. He wanted to taste his lips again. Wanted to feel them again. No, not wanted. . .needed. He gave in to his desires and kissed them again. It was then that he tasted the beer. He pulled from the American and looked closer. Duo was hugging a beer bottle. Suddenly it made sense how Duo fell asleep. Maybe the American hadn't changed. Heero stood up and carried him into the room. He gently laid him on the bed. He then removed the socks and shoes. Pulling at the tie, he couldn't help but stare at the sleeping beauty. If anything, Duo had become more beautiful over the years. There was still a sense of immaturity about his accents, but the air shrouding him had changed. It became darker, much more melancholy. Duo had always been able to carry a smile, no matter what. There were times when Heero had watched him sleep and saw the smile even then. Now the smile was gone. The happy-go-lucky feeling that he always got when he was near was also gone. Heero couldn't help but wonder what had happened. What could possibly be so horrible to suck the life out of him? Could someone had hurt him? Maybe that was why he wasn't seeing anyone. What if the last person he was with was abusive to him? What if they hurt him? Anger waged through Heero at the thought of anyone harming his Duo. He would have to find out if that was what happened. And if he did find out that someone did this to him, Heero knew exactly what to do. He would kill that person in the most painful way he could think of. Whatever they did to Duo, Heero would pay back tenfold. Beautiful sunshine poured into the bedroom as Novia threw open the doors to the balcony. Inhaling deeply, she stepped into the crisp morning. A smile curved her lips as she listened to the birds chirping happily as they fed their young breakfast. The dew resting on the flowers of the garden were breathtaking. However, there was one scene that made the morning perfect. On the opposite side of the mansion, Wu Fei was also on his balcony. He was sitting crossed legged, his eyes closed in deep meditation. Novia slightly laughed. "Now this is one morning scene I can get used to." She muttered to herself as she leaned on the banister. "Though I believe your mother would disagree." Quatre added as he joined his niece. "Doesn't hurt to look my dear uncle. Believe me, I will definitely look." A mischievous laugh escaped. "Besides, mother sure is busy with the wedding and guests. Wu Fei sure spends a lot of time outside the group." "You have a lot of spunk." "Does Wu Fei like spunk?" Quatre laughed as there was a knock on his door. He reentered the room and as he opened the door, was greeted by a deep good morning kiss. He was pushed into the room and against the wall. As the kiss deepen, the door was closed and hands rested on his waists, pulling the two bodies together. It was the first time his lover acted as such, but then again, it was the first time they been separated like last night. If this was the morning result, maybe he should have Trowa sleep in another room more often. The kisses trailed down his neck and Quatre could feel the hands' desires through the touch. "Trowa. . ." His lips were seized in another kiss. "Trowa, Novia is on the balcony." Quatre breathed as he finally pulled away. Trowa looked at him a moment before turning to see the niece watching them. There was a stary look in her eyes. "Don't mind me." She said softly and Trowa pulled from his lover and slumped into a chair. "Aren't you supposed to be Wu Fei watching?" Quatre asked teasingly as he sat on Trowa's lap. "He went in. I'm not going to stare at a empty balcony." She studied the two for a moment before realizing that they wanted to be alone. "Oh. . .I'm sorry." She strolled over to the door and allowed herself out. "You two have fun now, but don't do anything I wouldn't." "I don't think I'm going to survive this week Trowa." Quatre whined and hugged him closely. "I missed you last night. It was so cold and lonely." Trowa gently kissed his temple. "We'll have time to make up for it when everyone leaves." He whispered softly and kissed the pouting lips. The Latin's arms slid around the slender waist and pulled the smaller body closer as their kiss deepen. They were pulled apart when someone cleared their throat. Emeralds and sapphires turned to meet brown. "Good morning Kanissa." Quatre started softly and reluctantly stood up. "Good morning Quatre. . .Trowa." Trowa barely nodded clearly fed up with the sister. "Breakfast is ready. We should all meet downstairs." "UGH!!!!!!" Duo threw the brush across the room. The loud thud demanded Heero's attention. He stepped from the bathroom to observe the scene before him. Duo was rummaging through the contents of the night stand. He was fully dressed, but his wet hair was shadowing most of the frame. Finding what he was looking for, Duo looked up and Heero couldn't help but become enchanted by the American's beauty. Anger evident in his violet eyes, he grabbed a hunk of his auburn hair and raised the object he had been searching for, a pair of scissors. Heero nearly panicked. He wasn't sure why, but he didn't want Duo to cut his hair. Without thinking, he eliminated the distance between them and seized the threatening hand. Duo looked up at him a little surprised. Heero snatched the scissors and threw them back in the drawer. He then roughly lead Duo to the bed and pushed him to sit down. Duo couldn't believe his eyes. What was Heero thinking? Vex, he watched as Heero picked up the brush and sat behind him. Without an invitation, he began to brush Duo's hair. The auburn haired man sat perfectly still while the brush tenderly ran through locks. Was this a dream? Could the real Heero be brushing his hair the way he had so many times before? This had to be a dream. Just like last night when he dreamed that Heero was kissing him. There's no way this could be. Since it was a dream, Duo wanted it to last as long as possible, so he dare not move or squirm like he used to. Heero quickly understood Duo's frustration. There were a lot more tangles than there used to be. If he didn't know any better he could have sworn that Duo hadn't washed his hair in a long time. Probably because he had no one to help him wash and brush it. Heero closed his eyes and inhaled the sweet smell of the apple shampoo that was used. He used to love brushing the auburn mane. Used to love washing it, braiding it, running his fingers through it. He was surprised at how still Duo was staying during the process. Usually he would squirm and complain that Heero was being too rough, and though he never admitted it, Heero liked to hear the complaining. Now it was dead silent in the room. The brush hit a snarl, and Heero was gentle in removing it. He had to admit that this time he was being a lot more nicer toward the snags. The brush strokes were slower and more adoring, deep down he hated for the moment to end. Unfortunately, all tangles were removed and Heero sat the brush on the mattress. He sectioned off the hair. It wasn't difficult, each strand knew exactly where it was supposed to go. Duo looked up as he felt Heero's finger accidentally brush against his back. The quick touch caused his heart to flutter and a tingling sensation to course throughout his body. It was then that he noticed the fact that he was sitting straight across from the full length mirror. He could see Heero behind him, working diligently on the braid. The Japanese boy he once knew was now a man. His muscles finally filled out in the right places making him even more desirable than Duo could remember. The deep no nonsense colbats were set on the task at hand, like always. Heero must not have noticed the mirror, or didn't care. He didn't look up even once. Something inside Duo screamed for him to ask. Ask for forgiveness. Now was the perfect time. Fear kept the words from forming. What if Heero just laughed at him? What if the man he loved no longer returned those feelings? What if. . . His thoughts were interrupted with a simple knock. The end of Duo's braid flopped over his shoulder like it always did when Heero was done. He stared at the tip for a moment before turning to face the maker of that braid. The door quickly opened and Relena bounced into the room. This wasn't a dream. It was a nightmare. "Good morning Heero." She sang and kissed his cheek. Heero turned to look at her, a little surprised. "Oh, hi Duo." She glanced over at the roommate and then turned back to her lover. "I know I wasn't very nice to you last night." She started and wrapped Heero's arms around her waist. "But I will make that up to you." Without warning she kissed him fully and flung her arms around his neck, pulling him deeper into the kiss. Tears burned and began to spill over Duo's eyes. He quickly stood up and left the room. He couldn't take it anymore. He was going to get as far away from here as possible. Away from Quatre and his perfect wedding. Away from all the sisters. Away from Heero and far away from Relena. As he stormed down the hall, blinded by his tears, he ran into Wu Fei. "Hey, watch where you're going Maxwell." Wu Fei called. Duo ignored him and turned to continue. "Are you okay?" The China man asked and seized Duo's wrist to stop him from going any further. "Leave me alone Wu Fei." Duo cried and tried to pull free, all the while, he tried to keep his tears hidden. He didn't feel like hearing Wu Fei tell him how weak he was for crying. "Duo, what happened?" The concerned friend pulled the American back to face him. It was then that he saw Duo's tears. "I said leave me alone damnit!" He tried pulling away harder. "Now let go!" Wu Fei had never seen the braided wonder like this before. Trowa had told him last night what had happened in the music room. Up until now, he couldn't believe that it could be true. Now, seeing the tears streaming from the violet eyes, he believed every word. "Please Wu Fei, just let me go." Duo whispered and turned his pleading eyes toward the Preventer. "What's wrong? What happened?" "Nothing, damnit, just leave me alone!" He wiggled free and began running again. Wu Fei took chase. After what happened last night, he didn't want Duo to do anything to himself. Wu Fei never knew that the American could run so fast. Not even the large stairwell slowed him down. Instead of following down the stairs, he jumped over the banister and landed in front of the surprised braided man. Duo stopped dead in his tracks and before Wu Fei could do anything more, began running in the opposite direction. "Damnit Maxwell!" Wu Fei yelled in hopes of him stopping, which he didn't. Inhaling deeply, he continued to pursue. Novia stared at the two men a little surprised. She was heading toward the dinning room when Wu Fei landed right in front of her. She had yelped a little at the surprise, but he didn't seem to have noticed. She couldn't help but wonder where her uncle found his friends. Duo couldn't run anymore. His lungs felt like they were on fire. He stopped and fell to his knees gasping for air. Wu Fei stopped behind him, glad that he had finally stopped. He was a little out of breath, but Duo looked as if he was about to collapse. "Are you going to tell me what happened?" Wu Fei breathed and waited. After a few minutes, Duo stood up straight. "If you try to run again, I swear I'll tackle you to the ground." "Why would you care?" Duo panted as he was beginning to regain his composure. "Because I do." "I'm not going to tell you again to leave me alone." Duo warned and turned to face the Preventer. He didn't care what the other had to say about his tears. "Well, it's not going to do any good, because I'm not leaving you like this." "Leave me the fuck alone!" Duo screamed, but Wu Fei remained still as he crossed his arms over his chest. "What the Hell do you want from me?" "Nothing. I don't want anything from you. I just don't want you to hurt yourself." Duo stared at him a little surprised. "Trowa told me about last night Duo, and I do care what happens to you." "Why should you care?" "I know we haven't been the best of friends. In fact we barely got along, but that doesn't mean that I hate you, or don't care. In fact I admire you." "What?" "You're a strong person Duo, and I respect that in you." His tone was softer as he walked over to the surprised man. "I don't believe that someone with your strength should die such a dishonorable death." He gently wiped away the tears. "How can you say I'm strong?" "It took a lot to come here. Especially after what happened between you and Yuy. I think you're handling this well." "Well? I fucking bawl every time I see them together." "Tears don't make you weak. If anything they make you stronger." Duo stared at him in surprise. He never thought that Wu Fei would say something like that, especially toward him. "Duo I admit when I first met the four of you, I tried to denounce you. I wanted nothing to do with any of you, but Zero showed me different. It showed me that my destiny lied with the four of you. Little did I know at the time that you guys would turn into more than just allies. You guys are my friends, and the only ones I have." He turned stern coal to violet. "I won't lose any of my friends. They mean too much to give up." "Did Quatre put you up to this?" "Winner had nothing to do with this." "But he told you what happened last night." "No he didn't. Barton did. He did because he knew I worried for you." Duo's eyes widen in surprise as he felt Wu Fei hug him. He never heard the ex-pilot so consoling before, let alone expect him to hug. Not knowing what else to do, he returned the embrace, burying his face deeply into the strong shoulder. It wasn't the shoulder he had been looking for, but it was convenient. ~ * ~
