I'll Do Anything

Part 6

Heero sat Relena's bag on the floor. He turned to Trowa who was waiting at the door. While Quatre's sisters were making themselves aquatinted with Relena, Trowa showed Heero to his room.

"So, me and Relena can't share the same room?" Trowa shook his head.

"Kanissa's extremely old fashioned. She doesn't believe in people sleeping together until after marriage."

"Must be rough on you and Quatre."

"You have no ideal." They rounded a corner and headed toward the room. "Ummm. . .there's one more thing I forgot to tell you."

"What's that?" Heero stopped in front of the door.

"There were a few people who decided to come at the last minute. So you'll have to share a room with someone."

"Who?"

"Trowa?" Quatre appeared at the end of the hall. Trowa turned to go to his beckoning lover, but Heero stopped him. Seizing his upper arm, Heero turned him back to face him.

"Who am I sharing with Trowa?" The solemn look in the deep green eyes was enough of an answer. "Tro-wa!" Suddenly, the bedroom door opened, and just as he expected, Duo stood on the threshold. Violet met colbat for the first time in ten years. Tears brimmed Duo's eyes, but before any one noticed, he slammed the door shut and leaned against it. He couldn't believe Quatre had done this to him. His Arabian friend told him about sharing a room, but not that it was with Heero. He ignored the knock on the door.

"Duo." Quatre called.

"What?"

"Can you open the door?"

"Yes I can." He snapped. "But that don't mean that I will."

"Duo please?" Caving, Duo stood straight and opened the door.

"I should have known you two were planning this. You're nothing but a couple of snakes at times." He glared at the blonde. He turned to give Trowa the same treatment, but was surprised to find that he wasn't stand there any longer. Nor was Heero. Glancing to his left, he saw the two half way down the hall talking in lowered voices.

"Duo, this room doubling wasn't planned." Quatre tried to explain as Duo spun on his heels and reentered the room. The American plopped down on the bed and Quatre joined him. "I promise that this is just temporary."

"Why did you do this to me Q?" Genuine tears formed in Quatre's eyes.

"I'm sorry Duo. I truly am. This is the only arrangement there is."

"What about the guest house?"

"It's full. Everyone is doubled up and still some of my sisters' families are staying in hotels."

"What about Wu Fei? Couldn't he share with Heero and I'll share with whoever he's with?" Quatre shook his head.

"Kanissa refuses to allow me and Trowa to sleep on the same side of the mansion let alone rooms. He's with Wu Fei upon her request. She's convinced that Wu Fei won't allow us to sneak into each other's room. She knows that Heero wouldn't care and that you'll just encourage us."

"That's messed up. You guys are anything but virgins. What about you?"

"Novia is sharing with me."

"You couldn't have picked another of your many estates to have this in?"

"I picked the place based on the amount of guests that confirmed. There's about 50 that did at the last minute."

"Let me guess who three of them were."

"Okay, I admit. I had the thought of getting the two of you back together, but I swear I would never go this far. Please believe me when I say that this wasn't planned. I would never try to hurt you like this."

"I believe you Q." Duo sighed. "Well, at least I don't have to look at Relena just yet."

"No. I purposely put her on the opposite side. She's sharing with Desdemona."

"The gossip Queen?" Duo laughed. "She talks more than I do." His smile fainted as Heero appeared on the threshold.

"So the two of you sharing is fine?" Duo averted his eyes from his ex.

"Yeah, I guess."

Heero unpacked silently. He attempted to stay focused on his task, but he couldn't help but glimpse at Duo every now and then. The American, like always, had the radio blasting. He was dancing to the music while he put away his things. He seemed oblivious to the Japanese roommate.

Heero couldn't help but notice that the braided dancer hadn't change. At least not physically. Except his hair had gotten longer. The last time Heero saw him, the braid rested in the middle of his lower back. Now it easily flowed just below his backside, near to his knees. He couldn't help but think how beautiful it would look if released.

Heero closed his eyes and tried to force his thoughts from the figure dancing behind him. As if knowing that he was being ignored, Duo began singing with the song. Heero would never admit it, but he liked to listen to him sing. He always felt that Duo had a great singing voice, and that if he tried hard enough he could make a living at it. Suddenly, there was a knock on their door. Before either of them moved to open it, Relena poked her head inside.

"Heero. .I was just wondering. . ." Her eyes landed on the dancing Duo. Duo wished he had a camera. The look on Relena's face was priceless. "What's going on in here?" She crossed her arms over her chest. Seizing her wrist, Heero lead her into the hall, and closed the door. Duo couldn't resist dashing over and placing his ear next to the wood to listen.

"Relena. ." Heero started and leaned against the door, still holding her wrist.

"Why is he dancing in our room?!" She yanked from his grasp and glared at him.

"More guest showed up than expected. So everyone's doubled up. Just like you have to share, I do too."

"But with him?"

"It couldn't be helped."

"Or it didn't want to be helped."

". . Hn?. ."

"Don't act innocent Heero. You know those two had to have something to do with this. They're trying to break us up." Heero slammed his fist against the door, knowing that Duo was listening. The braided man pulled from the door rubbing his ear in pain.

"I thought we were broke up." Heero whispered in hopes that Duo hadn't heard him.

"No! We're just . .postponing. There's a difference."

"Nothing is going on between us Relena."

"At least not right now. Mark my words, there will be before this week is over." She spun around on her heel and started down the hall.

"Where are you going?" Heero pushed himself from the door and grabbed her arm to prevent her from leaving.

"I'm going to give Quatre and Trowa a not-so-nice piece of my mind." He pulled her closer to him.

"Are you jealous?"

"No, of course not. I just don't think it's right for them to do this." He slipped his arms around her waist.

"Relena, they didn't mean for this to happen. It just did. Don't you trust me?"

"Of course I do. It's Duo that I don't trust."

"He's harmless."

"Is he?" Duo listened for a response. Curious, he silently opened the door enough so that he could see the pair. As soon as he opened the door, he wished he hadn't. They were kissing. Keeping his tears at bay, he closed the door and leaned against it. After what he done, how could he possibly even begin to think that Heero would want him back?

Duo lightly ran his fingers along the keys of the grand piano. Dinner had been an interesting event. There was so much conversation at once that Duo's head was still spinning. A lot of Quatre's younger relatives were hitting on him. Though he enjoyed the attention, he felt guilty about flirting. One, because deep down he knew he was only trying to make Heero jealous. Although he never seen the colbat eyes leave Relena or the person that was talking to him. The other reason was now not only was his fan club following him everywhere, but their parents were constantly glaring at him. He finally ditched his groupies and wound up in the music room.

When he lived with Quatre for awhile, he rarely came into this room. He found no interest or need in it, but now it was serving as a sanctuary. It was the only part of the estate that didn't hold any memories of him and Heero. Or at least, he didn't think it would. As he looked at all the instruments, his eyes caught a picture sitting on the mantle. There was several pictures, in truth, but only one stood out among the rest. It was a picture of the five of them. Duo picked up the silver frame, careful not to knock any of the others over. It was taken in the back yard of this very estate by the outdoor pool. Actually it was on Quatre's birthday, and that regretful night.

Trowa was sitting on a sun chair, Quatre sweetly placed on his lap. Wu Fei stood to the furthest left of the picture, as if he was ready to go. Duo and Heero were in the dead center. Heero was standing behind him, chin resting on his shoulder, both arms snaked around his slender waste. He was holding so tightly that day that Duo often joked that he was going to be broke in half. Now that he looked at the picture, the arms weren't breaking him. Rather, they were holding him together.

Tears spilled from violet as he closed them and remembered. Remembered how wonderful it was to be in those arms. Those loving arms that he sacrificed. Now he would never be able to feel them around him again. He hugged the picture tightly to his chest.

"Heero. . ." He whispered to the image pressed against him. "Heero, I'm so sorry. Please forgive me." He turned his face toward the ceiling. "Please make him forgive me. I want another chance. I swear I won't blow it again. So many people have told me that you exist and that you perform miracles I have yet to see a single miracle that they say you perform. And still they tell me you do. If that's true, give me what I ask and I'll believe in you. Give me this one little miracle. .and. . .I'll do anything." He dissolved into more tears as he bowed his head in grief. He held the frame closer as if trying to feel those arms through the glass.

"Duo?" He didn't need to turn to know it was Quatre.

"Leave me alone. . ." He whispered hoarsely from his tears. Quatre ignored the request as he stood behind the American.

"I'm so sorry Duo." He wrapped his arms around his friend. "Please, forgive me for putting you through this."

"It's not you. It's me. It's been me the whole time. I'm the one that fucked up." He slumped onto the piano bench and Quatre followed, hugging him tighter in hopes of making the trembling stop. "I fucked up! You guys might as well give up. It's hopeless."

"It's not hopeless Duo."

"Yes it is. There's no way you, Trowa or anyone else could possibly make Heero love me again. . .I don't deserve it. I'm not worthy of him anymore."

"Do you want him to marry Relena?"

"She'll love him no matter what. She'll give him everything he wants."

"What about what he needs?"

"He don't need me. . .That's for sure."

"Duo. ."

"I don't care anymore Quatre."

"Don't say that. Of course you care. That's why you're here."

"I don't want to live." Duo whispered softly as he wiped his tears away.

"No, Duo. ."

"No one would care if I did. Maybe it would be better." He pulled from the blonde.

"Duo, that's not true!"

"Yes it is. Who would care? Wu Fei has his nose stuck up the Preventers. I don't think Trowa ever liked me. Heero. . .well. . .just look at Heero." The mention of his ex brought more tears. "You would be the only one that would miss me. But you know between Trowa and your sisters, you wouldn't cry long."

"And Hilde? I guess she doesn't care either?"

"HELL NO! She's only following me for one thing!"

"Duo, none of that is true. We all love you. If you died, it would bring grief to us all. We would morn for you and it wouldn't be brushed aside or forgotten." He stood up and hugged the violet eyed friend. "Duo, my heart would never heal if something happened to you. I care for you like I care for my sisters, if not more. You're my brother. . .and the only one I'll ever have." Tears were now spilling from his sapphires.

"Uncle Quatre?" The two men turned to face Novia who was standing in the hall. She observed them for a moment. "Is now not a good time?"

"No. I'm sorry, it's not."

"Okay, I'm sorry." She turned to leave.

"I think your family is missing you Quatre. You should go to them."

"Right now, Duo, you're more important than my sisters' endless chattering. I'm not going to leave you alone like this."

"I need to be alone."

"So you can hurt yourself? I don't think so. What is it with the rest of you pilots? Every time things get a little rough, you want to throw in the towel." Quatre pulled from his 'brother'.

"Not everyone has everything perfect like you Quatre."

"My life isn't perfect."

"Yes it is. You're the richest guy in the universe. You have like a bazillion different homes and getaway homes. You're going to marry your true love. . .damn, I wish I had your problems."

"Yeah. . .well. . .I. . .don't have a liquor loving lab." Duo stared at the Arab a moment.

"A liquor loving lab?. . . We're talking about life here and you're bringing up my alcoholic dog?" He wiped his tears on the back of his hand.

"Well, I think he's cute." Quatre pouted a little and Duo couldn't help but laugh. "Even if he does have to visit AA every now and then."

"Sometimes I wonder about you Q."
