Part 3

"I'm sorry I got you kicked out of your club gramps." Duo stated to break the silence that had been lingering in the limo.

"It's okay Duo."

"But didn't I embarrass you?"

"If it had been a year ago, it would have. . .but not now. I'm proud of what you've done back there. There isn't a single person in the membership that wouldn't have wanted to do what you had the guts to do. . .and that was stand up to that 'over stuffed peacock'." The older man chuckled at the words.

"I take it, he's not too friendly."

"No. But no one wants to be on his bad side. He holds a lot of power in this town."

"What about your friends at the club?"

"They weren't my true friends. . .just acquaintances." The old man smiled and leaned back in his seat. "I don't believe I've had very many friends in my time. I was always worry about success, and money. The only friend that I ever had was my wife. . . .I miss her dearly. I can't wait to see her again." As Duo stared at his grandfather, he had a hunch that the old man wasn't just reminiscing this time.

"Hey, why don't we go do something fun?"

"Like what?"

"Well. . .you showed me a taste of your life. So let me give you a taste of mine. It'll be my treat. Compliments of peacock." He grinned and pulled out the bills that Coleman had parted with before Duo was physically removed from the club.

"You are a naughty boy." Dennis chuckled as he watched the busty woman dancing on the stage.

"I can't believe you've never been to a strip club before." The American laughed loudly and took a drink from his glass. The brown eyes were locked on the woman as she seductively removed her top. Duo glanced over at his grandfather as he noticed beads of sweat appearing on his forehead. "You okay gramps?" Duo questioned and the old man nodded while wiping the sweat from his forehead.

The woman slid off of the stage and walked over to Dennis. She leaned over slightly and ran her hand along the side of his flushed cheeks. She then turned, her shoulder length blonde hair whipping through the flashing lights, and placed herself on the old man's lap. Duo's grin widen as he watched the youthfully attractive woman rub herself on his grandfather's lap. She leaned back against his chest, and brought her face dangerously close to his. Her fingers lightly ran through his hair as a seductive look filled her green eyes.

At that moment, she pulled out all the stops as she stood and turned around again. This time, she straddle him and rubbed her bare breast against his chest and face. Duo laughed at the enjoyment on the wrinkled face. Suddenly, the expression changed from one of joy to pain.

"Are you all right gramps?" Duo asked. When there was no answer, the stripper stood up.

"Sir, are you okay?" Duo bounced from his chair and was at Dennis' side in a flash.

"Gramps!" The old man clutched his heart after realizing that he couldn't find his voice. Not wasting time, Duo reached into the pocket of his jacket and pulled out the cell phone. He opened it and dialed 911. "Hang on for me gramps." He encouraged as he waited for an answer.

"Are you okay?" Quatre asked softly as Duo pulled from the embrace. Not fully trusting his voice he nodded. "I'm so sorry Duo." He sympathized and the American forced a smile to his lips.

"At least I got a chance to know a little something about him." Quatre's lips curved at the statement. "Thanks for coming Q. I don't know what I would have done if you didn't come."

"I'm here for you Duo. . .and so are they." Quatre added as he looked pass his grieving friend. Duo looked up to follow the direction of the sapphires to witness Trowa and Heero heading toward them. He felt his spirits brighten upon seeing them. They both seemed odd in black suits. It was the first time that Duo had seen either of them outside blue jeans and tee shirts.

"I was starting to think that you guys weren't going to make it." Duo stated as the pair advanced toward him. Heero approached first and he lightly embraced the American. It was expected since he and Heero were best friends. What surprised him was when Trowa pulled him into a hug. "Now I think I'm scared." He teased once he pulled away.

"How are you holding up?" Trowa asked softly.

"Okay."

"Surprising with all the stares." Heero spoke loud enough for the people closest to them to hear. It was a fact that the so called friends of Dennis had been staring Duo down the whole time. Now with the new arrivals, the stares seemed to grow longer and more scornful, all wondering who they were.

"Let them stare all they want."

"What happened to him?"

"He had a heart attack. . .it was all my fault." Duo grumbled and slumped back into the seat that he was sitting in. Heero kneeled before him and looked into the downcast features. "I took him to a strip club, and one of the girls was giving him a lap dance. I guess it was too much excitement for him."

"You can't blame yourself Duo." Quatre soothed and sat next to his friend.

"If I hadn't taken him, then he wouldn't have had a heart attack."

"Who's to say that it wouldn't have happened if you spent the night at home?" Heero offered as a possible way of averting the blame.

"At least this way he had a smile on his face." Trowa spoke, gaining glares from both Heero and Quatre; but laughter from Duo. At that, Duo lifted his eyes to the taller boy.

"Thanks Tro. I needed that." His violet eyes then glanced toward the door. They were about to start, and Wu Fei had yet to show up. Part of Duo wished that the Chinese boy would appear. Though he understood why he couldn't. He wanted to see the strong Preventer again. . .even if it was for a few seconds. He could feel Quatre lightly rubbing his back in comfort.

"Duo, I'm so sorry for your lost." A woman's voice sliced through the four boys. All shades of eyes turned to the blonde girl as Duo stood. She embraced him quickly and he could feel the question going through all of their minds.

"Thanks Freya. These are my friends, Heero, Quatre, and Trowa. This is Freya, she is a member of the country club that I got gramps kicked out of. . .and probably the only peacock worth talking to in here." Trowa and Heero nodded, but Quatre extended his hand in a formal greeting.

"You got kicked out of a country club?" Quatre questioned as he looked at the American.

"Yes. Right after he defeated Coleman Radcliff III in a game of pool." Freya continued to relate the story, which Duo added too here and there. All in all, it did the trick in lightening the group.

"Well I'm glad to see that you all are amused while being here." Coleman announced as he appeared in the group; this time he was accompanied by a slightly older man that looked like him. Duo assumed him to be Coleman's father.

"Only ruffians find misfortunate humorous." The older man scoffed as they walked by. Heero started to follow the pair after seeing the depression cloud Duo's eyes; but Trowa stopped him from making a scene. It was rare for the braided boy to not have a come back from an insult. This only proved how harshly he was taking the lost and being out casted by everyone else at the funeral home. At that time, Duo excused himself from the small group, claiming that he had to use the rest room.

"He's taking this really hard." Trowa observed once the usually happy-go-lucky boy was gone.

"The death, yes. . .but the crass comments that he's been getting all afternoon hasn't helped any either." Quatre informed, grabbing both Trowa and Heero's attention.

"What kind of comments?"

"Most of the people here claim that he was only after his grandfather's money. They've been calling him street rat, and uncivilized."

"Who's uncivilized?" Wu Fei asked as he entered the group from behind. All three of the ex-pilots were a little surprised that the Chinese boy had come. . .despite the fact that he was still wearing his Preventers uniform.
