The Tie That Bonds Chapter 11 I bet you can't." Emily scoffed and stuck her tongue out at Amelia. "I can to!" Amelia disagreed and balled her tiny hands into fist. "Then prove it. Go do it." Emily encouraged in a sing song voice. Amelia nodded and walked over to the opposite side of the playground where the boys her age were playing freeze tag. She kept her eyes glued to the British boy with a mess of brown hair. At this time, he was frozen and couldn't move. Amelia stopped right in front of him and kissed him dead on the lips. At the touch, the boy began frantically wiping his lips with the back of his hand. The other boys he was playing with stopped what they were doing and started to laugh and point at the kissed boy. "CHAD HAS COOTIES! CHAD HAS COOTIES!" "I do not have cooties!" The boy screamed in response to the other singing children. He then turned to Amelia and pushed her to the ground. "Thanks a lot Amelia, now everyone thinks I have cooties." Angered by being pushed, she scrambled to her feet and glared at the boy. Everyone suddenly became silent. All the other students knew the glare too well. Amelia slammed her balled fist against Chad's eye; causing the brown haired boy to fall to the ground. Once he regained his footing, he ran away, crying to a teacher that was close by. The teacher kneeled as the boy came running to her. Amelia heard every word that he was saying to the adult, though they were standing at least twenty feet from her. As Chad explained what had happened, he seemed to have forgotten to mention that Amelia was pushed first. The teacher looked over at Amelia before standing up straight and taking Chad's hand. Together, they walked back over to the offensive little girl. "Amelia, Chad says that you hit him. Is that true?" "Yes. Miss. Shadow, I did." "I think you owe Chad an apology." "I will, when he apologizes to me." "I'm not apologizing to you!" "Why does he owe you an apology Amelia?" "Because he pushed me down." "I did not!" Chad bawled and wiped his eyes with the heel of his hand. "You hit me for no reason." "You pushed me first." Amelia turned around and patted the dirt off the back of her jeans. "Do you think dirt just grows on my butt for no reason?" "You're dirty any ways." "I am not!" She balled her fist again and the teacher grabbed it lightly. "Maybe we should talk about this in the principle's office." "But it's not my fault." Chad whined as Miss. Shadow escorted the two children from the playground. Amelia walked by the lady's side without saying a single word.
"She was sent home early." "Why?" Trowa pulled the chicken from the meat drawer and closed the door to the refrigerator. "Shouldn't you tell him Amelia?" The little girl shook her head quickly without looking up at either men. Heero stood in front of the five year old, waiting for his answer. "Amelia." The tone in his voice was more than enough of a warning. "I punched Chad in his eye." Shame and fear was in the little girl's voice, as she still couldn't look the Japanese man in the eye. He didn't need to ask for her to know that he wanted the whole story. "Emily dared me to go kiss him, and I did. Right in front of all the kids, and they started singing that he had cooties. That made him mad, so he pushed me down. . .then I punched him." Heero opened his mouth, ready to speak, but Amelia continued before he could. "Trowa told me that what I did was wrong. I shouldn't have punched Chad. Meanless fighting never solved anything." "You mean, meaningless." Trowa corrected. "Right. . .meaningless fighting only makes things worse. Trowa said that instead of hitting back, I should go tell a teacher when someone hits me." Heero glanced over at his lover for a brief second before giving the child his full attention. "I'm sorry." She whispered as an afterthought. "Go to your room." Heero stated firmly and helped her off of the counter. The child nodded and left, with her head bowed. Once they were alone, Heero stepped behind the Latin and slipped his arms around the thin waist. He could tell that something was plaguing Trowa's mind. "What's wrong?" "The little boy's eye was swallowed shut when I arrived for the conference." Trowa pulled from the embrace and turned to face his partner. "Something isn't right. She's a lot stronger than a child her age should be. Maybe it wasn't such a good ideal to teach her self defense at such an early age. I don't think she realizes what she is capable of doing, or what is meant by self defense." "She understands Trowa. She knows that that boy pushed her down. It was an assault, so she defended herself. If she doesn't stand up for herself, then she's going to be bullied." "Or become the bully. This is the third time this month that she's punched a boy at school. . . .can you finish dinner?" "Where are you going?" "I'm taking Amelia next door. I think she should apologize to Chad." "She's going to turn into a wimp Trowa." He grabbed Trowa's hand and pulled him close. "Ever occur to you that she just might have a crush on him?" "Heero." "I mean, after all, she did kiss him." "On a dare." "Just let them be. She's been punished enough." "I don't think attempting to rectify a mistake is considered punishment." Heero placed his index finger over Trowa's lips before cupping his chin. He slowly pulled the taller man's face close to his. Just as their lips nearly met, the back door burst open, and a over joyous Duo entered the kitchen. "Bad timing?" He questioned as he noticed Trowa in Heero's arms. "It wouldn't be you if it wasn't." Trowa answered and started to leave the room. "You aren't serious about taking her, are you?" Heero called. "She has to learn now that there's alternative ways to handle situations without fighting. She also has to learn to know when she is wrong." He stopped at the threshold as he noticed Amelia standing to the side. "How long have you been there?" She looked up with big blue eyes that seem to be pleading to him not to be angry. A thin smile pulled at her lips before she answered. "A lot longer than I should have been?" She asked hopefully.
