"When you reach the end of the hall, you should be in the dinning area. From there . . .ill. . .u. . .da. . .a. . ." The speakers were breaking up. "Dorothy, can you hear us?" Quatre inquired
and held the speaker closer to his ear to hear a response. All he
got was static. "Dorothy, our speakers are breaking up. Dorothy?"
"Chad, is yours working?" Rei asked and the
pair stopped in the middle of the hall. "Mine's completely dead
Quatre, how about yours?" "I'm getting a bunch of static." He answered
and removed his head speaker. "Shine your light over here."
Rei did as he requested. She watched as he opened the speaker and
inspected a few things. "Everything seems okay." "Here, check mine." Rei removed her speaker
and handed it to him. "Yours is perfectly fine too. They must be having
problems on their end." "Now what?" "Well. . ." Quatre began as they both replaced
their speakers. "We know where we're supposed to go. So why not
just go there and wait. Maybe it won't be long before they get everything
fixed." "Wow, I'm surprised you're willing to do that."
Rei breathed as the two continued walking toward the dinning area.
"I'm not a coward, I'm just cautious." Rei
stopped abruptly, causing Quatre to run into her back. The Arab studied
his partner a moment. She was standing perfectly still and looking
about the room with her eyes. Quatre followed her lead, but didn't
see anything out of the ordinary. "What's wrong Rei?" He
asked suddenly. "I feel some sort of a presence." "A presence?" Quatre looked about. Neither
of their flashlights moved around the room. Lights couldn't find what
was being sensed. All at once, he felt it too. "Maybe we should
go back. It doesn't seem kind." "It'll be okay, let's just keep going." Rei
assured and continued walking. Quatre followed, despite his better
judgment. The farther they walked, the more dangerous it felt. "I'm
not going any further." Quatre insisted and turned to leave.
"Look, we're almost to our destination. You can't
quit now." "But Rei. . ." Suddenly there was loud pounding
from the doors all around them. Rei and Quatre jumped back and ended
up bumping into each other. Both their hearts started beating faster
as the pounding became louder. Soon screams were added to the pounding.
"Rei?" "Maybe this is one of their tricks? They might
have rigged it so that. . ." Her words were stopped as her eyes
fell on a figure emerging from the dinning area. It appeared to be
a doctor. He was well built and wearing doctor scrubs. The only visible
part of his body were his eyes. "Quiet!" He yelled and the pounding and screaming ceased. "What are you two doing out of your rooms?" Quatre peeked over Rei's shoulder to see who was talking. Without thinking, he began running in the direction they came from. ********* "What was that?" Mina asked and aimed her
light toward the corner of the small room. Her beam ran the length
of the wall until it rested on Trowa. His features were emotionless,
but the air about him was clearly of annoyance. Ever since they were
abandoned by Yaten and Catherine, Mina jumped at every sound and movement
that she imagined. "You know, this would be a lot easier if we
talked. It would make the time go by faster." Mina tried, but
Trowa remained silent. She growled a little out of frustration. Sure
it was easy for him. He practically lived in silence. She, on the
other hand, hated for things to be quite. "Don't you ever say
anything?" "Do you ever stop?" Mina looked over at him.
It was the first thing she had heard him say. Or at least she thought
he said. Did he say that or was it a ghost? He was leaning against
the furthest wall opposite her. His eyes were closed, arms crossed,
he didn't look like he said something. In fact, he looked like he
was asleep. "Yours is dead too." Mina stared at him a
minute. His voice wasn't messed up at all. It was actually kind of
sexy. She watched as he sat cross legged in her spot and began to
tamper with the wires. This is just great. Here I am, locked in a
room with this cute guy, with a nice voice, and he wants to play with
a stupid radio. I wonder if he's gay? Maybe that's why he's ignoring
me so badly. She wondered and studied him closer. "There's nothing to fix." Wow, two sentences.
I'm on a roll. He handed her head set back. "So it's Yaten that's having the problems." Trowa half nodded his answer. "Why don't you hardly talk? I think you have a nice voice." Much to Mina's dismay, he was returning to his kingdom of silence. "You're not that bad looking either, I'm sure if you just talk to people, you wouldn't have problems getting a date." Trowa glared at her. "Not that I'm saying you do
have a problem. . .I'm just saying that maybe it would be easier."
The glare deepen. "That is if you don't already have a girlfriend
or something like that, cuz then you wouldn't need a date, now would
you?" She laughed nervously. "Then again, maybe you would
since you'd have to ask her. I mean dating is defined by asking. Unless
you. . ." Her sentence was interrupted as Trowa seized her lips
with his own. It was the only way he could think of to shut her up.
As he pulled away, he was thankful of the stunned silence to follow.
Mina lightly ran her fingertips over her lips as she stared at the unibanged pilot. She couldn't believe that he had just done that. Not that she was complaining. Without warning, she threw her arms around his neck and kissed him forcefully, causing both of them to topple to the padded floor. Figuring this was the only way to keep her quiet, Trowa returned her kiss with his own. Besides, she wasn't all that bad looking herself. He found her incredibly attractive, if only she didn't talk so much. *********** Heero clutched the flashlight tighter, it was all he
could do to stop himself from screaming aloud. Serena was still whinnying
about the whole rat incident. He never thought anyone could possibly
be any more annoying than Duo. Now he stood corrected. "I know you did that on purpose. You could have given me a mouse. But no, you had to give me a rat! Those things have far more germs than a mouse."
"You completed the dare." Heero pointed out.
"Only because I didn't have a choice. What was
I supposed to do when you nearly caused me to crush that poor rat."
Serena grumbled. "You're so mean!" Suddenly Heero stopped.
He held his hand out to keep his teammate from going any further.
"What? What's wrong?" She asked suddenly and held onto his
strong arm. Hopefully Serena's wasn't. "Why not ask her yourself?" "Mine is dead." He didn't really want to tell
her, for fear of her having something else to cry about. "Then we've been walking around aimlessly."
"We're going to be stuck in this asylum for the
rest of our lives!" Serena cried as tears actually formed in
her eyes. "No we won't. We'll just go back the way we came."
Heero persisted and turned Serena around to walk the other way. All
the while, he kept his eyes glued to the path behind them. Something
wasn't right. His skills as a solider allowed him to sense things.
Someone or something was heading toward them from the back way. Without
warning, Serena stopped. Heero looked over her shoulder to find out
what caused her to cease. Her flashlight was resting on a red puddle
on the floor. Heero walked around her and kneeled next to it. It was
blood. He looked around the room. The only thing he saw was a metal
door. Standing straight, he walked over to the door. "You're not going to open that are you?" Heero
remained silent as he slid the door open. There were only a few hunks
of broken metal lying on the ground. It appeared to have been a dumbwaiter
at one time. "Heero!" He turned to face the voice that
called him. It was Quatre. The blonde was followed by Rei. They were
running toward him and Serena from behind. "Heero, are your radios
working?" "No, they're not. Let's use yours." Serena
gasped and reached for Raye's. "Ours isn't working either." Rei assured and
Serena near fell over with disappointment. "We should get out
of here." "What about the contest?" Serena whined. "He
just made me hold a filthy, disgusting rat. I'm not turning back now
because the stupid radios aren't working." "Serena, this place is haunted." Quatre justified
and all color drained from the pigtailed girl's face. "Quatre, you can't possibly believe that."
Heero chided. "I do Heero. Rei and I both felt the spirits. They
were banging on the doors and screaming." "We even seen the ghost of one of the doctors."
Rei added. "These spirits are upset. I don't think they're happy
about us being here. We should leave, and let them rest in peace."
"I agree with them." Serena declared and stood
close to Rei. "I say we give up." "No!" Heero stated bluntly. "There's
no such things as ghost." "Then what was it that we saw Heero?" Rei
demanded an answer. "Probably nothing." "Heero, it isn't safe here any more." Quatre
entered. "We should go. Besides, the radios aren't working, so
they can't even give us directions or dares any more." "Then we wait until they fix them. If we leave
this building for any reason we're disqualified." "I don't want to do this any more. No one said
anything about ghosts!" Serena cried. "Some Sailor Scout." Heero huffed. "Hey, it's one thing to fight evil, it's another
to deal with angry ghosts. Heero please, let's just go." Serena
begged. "If these spirits are angry that makes them evil.
So fight them." "Heero, we should really go. The longer we stay
the more upset they'll get." "I'm not worried about figments of imagination."
"Fine! You stay here, we'll go." Rei was clearly
frustrated by Heero's stubbornness. "Come on Serena." Grabbing
her friend's arm, she turned to leave. "Do you know how to get out of here?" Quatre
wondered and followed the two girls. Rei stopped and turned to face
him. "No, I was hoping you would." "Well, we took so many turns that I kind of forgot."
"So we're still stuck here?!" Serena began
to literally bawl. "I want to get out of here!" Quatre turned
to face his comrade. "Heero?" He knew that if anyone remembered
the way out, it was him. Heero narrowed his colbat eyes and crossed
his arms over his chest. "Heero, this isn't fair. Rei and I both
want to leave. It's not right you forcing us to stay too. Please tell
us the way out. . . ." "Don't be such a jerk." Rei snapped. "I don't want to stay here anymore!" Serena
whimpered. "Regardless if you wait for the radios to come
back or not, Serena will cry to leave. It only takes one to get the
both of you disqualified." Heero seemed unmoved. "Then you'll
just be stuck here with her complaining." Given the choices,
Heero turned and headed toward the hall that would lead to the stairwell
they first came down. The three quitters followed him, happy to finally
be on their way out. "Thank you Heero." Quatre was the only one
to word his gratitude. ". . .hn. . ." He was clearly unhappy at the
fact that he lost. "I wonder if the others are okay." Quatre
said more to himself than the others. "If I know Mina, she probably chickened out by
now." Rei snickered.
