Disclaimer: I WISH I was making money off this.
And I wish I owned the characters. But, sadly, they're just my playthings
and other people who are richer and happier than I can claim otherwise. Rating: R Warnings: TWT, shounen ai, sap, fluff, occaisional silliness, humor, angst, blood, violence, language, kinda super natural. Archive: Steal it or any parts of it and I WILL
kill you. Im not kidding, Ive seen me do it Pairings: 1x2 Authors Notes: It's Super Natural in a really wierd way(that isn't even a good way to describe it), *NOT* SCI-FI, *NOT* DARK in the least, and it's something that I'm sure many of us have thought of at one time or another but I've never read anything about it so I'm changing that. Hmph. I hope you like it. ^_^ Spoilers: Yeah, a few. Unfortunately, they are from several episodes from all over the the series(including the Episode Zero manga) so listing them all would be pointless. And they are things that I think everyone knows already. But, to cover my own ass, if you have not seen the show, don't read. Also, why would you be here? 0_o Feedback: I will love you forever if you let me know what you think. Good comments adored, CC welcomed, flames laughed at. THANKS TO... KOHAKU!!! (glomps!), who helped me
work out a few things with the fic. You rock!
"Birds Of A Feather"
Chapter 7 Duo stared at the moving pictures on the TV, unable to really see them. His mind was far too occupied for him to be able to pay attention to the news he was watching. Heero was doing a little bit of work on Wing out in the hangar, giving Duo the house to himself, so he sat in the living room and thought about things with the TV on mute. We arent making any progress, here. He thought to himself. Were just kind of standing still, not moving forward and not moving back. What he did last night was sweet, but now today hes acting like he always did. He refuses to trust me. Why? Heero stepped into the house at that moment and glanced at Duo as he walked past him into the kitchen. Duo smelled the grease that they both used on their Gundams joints and figured Heero was washing his hands. He listened as the water was turned on. Ill just ask him to sit down and talk to me for a minute. Thats harmless, right? The water was shut off and Duo heard Heero dry his hands on the towel. As Heero appeared and headed for the stairs, Duo spoke. Heero? Heero stopped as he was about to climb the stairs and stood still, waiting for Duo to speak but not turning around. Duo gulped. Um. Can you sit down for a minute? Heeros back tensed and he made like he was going to continue up the stairs, but stopped himself again and turned to look over his shoulder and scowl slightly at Duo. Duo smiled his friendliest smile. Please? Heero, seemingly reluctantly, moved into the living room and took the seat on the opposite side of the couch from Duo. Duo tried to act like he didnt notice. There was silence in the room for a moment before Heero became annoyed. I dont like wasting time when I have things to do, Duo. Duo nodded and looked at the wall over the TV. Um, Heero, I just want you to know that, um... He paused. Looking over to Heero, he met narrowed blue eyes. That you can tell me anything. Heeros eyes narrowed a little more. Duo looked away. I mean, if you ever have anything on your mind, you dont have to think it out alone, you can talk to me if you need to. He glanced back to him. Heero was silent but his eyes continued to watch Duo. Clearing his throat, Duo continued. I just wanted you to know that you could tell me anything and it would be okay. Heeros eyes wandered away from Duos and focused on the wall behind him. You want me to tell you anything. He said thoughtfully, his tone soft, but not gentle. Duo nodded. Heeros eyes wandered back to his and he narrowed them again. Anything and everything. He said in the same tone. Duos eyes widened as he realized where Heero was going. You want me to tell you everything. He stood up from the couch and glared at Duo. Nice try. Duo blinked. No, I was serious, Heero. Yes, you were, but only about getting answers, not about selflessly being there like you said. He shook his head. Duo stood as well. Hey. Youre right, I DO want answers, Heero. But I also want to be there if you need me like you were last night for me. Were... Heeros eyes widened as he waited for Duo to complete the sentence. Id better not say friends. Hell probably hit me or something. ...comrades. He sighed. You being an angel doesnt change that. Heero glared again, his frame shaking lightly, but didnt say anything. Weve fought the same battle for a long time now. Duo went on. If we can fight together, we should be able to talk together. To tell each other anything. Heero shook his head and walked towards the stairs. I hate talking. He said as he climbed them. Why would talking with you be any exception? Duo felt hurt. I like him and I want us to be friends but he keeps doing everything in his power to keep me away. He followed him. You know, youre a real bastard for an angel. Heero spun around to face him, half way to his room. STOP!!! CALLING!!! ME!!! THAT!!! Duo yelled right back. Well, what should I call you, then?! Heero! He replied as he entered his room and slammed his door shut in Duos face, obviously not caring anymore how much Duo hated it. Duo bit down on the urge to say something he would regret and responded. And what are you, Heero?! Heeros voice was angry and muffled by the door. A fucking Gundam Pilot! Yeah?! Great! Me, too! Duo answered. But I didnt grow wings when I took the responsibility! Why dont you just tell me?! He didnt have time to react to what Heero did next. Heeros door opened suddenly and a fist flew out and connected with Duos chin. The braided pilot stumbled backwards and looked up just in time to see the door slam closed again and he heard footsteps walk away from it. He narrowed his eyes and yelled at the door. You know what?! FINE! Its not like I really wanted us to be friends, anyway, you cold-hearted bastard! * Heero froze on the other side of the door, just as he was about to throw himself onto his bed and bury his head in the pillow. He had been shaking with rage, but it had stopped now, as Duos words echoed in his mind. I like Duo. But I hurt him. AGAIN. Shit. ...Duo. There was silence on the other side of the door and Heero crept towards it and leaned against it. Duo. Yeah, what? He sounded annoyed. I... Heero swallowed and closed his eyes. He remembered J. No friends, Heero. ...Nothing. Go away. Che. Footsteps heading down the hall. Im already gone. Heero sighed and flipped open his laptop and typed his password, hearing it start automatically as he turned away and went to his bed, throwing himself onto it sideways, face down. What the hell am I supposed to do? Even if I wanted to tell Duo everything, I have orders not to. Why cant he just forget about the whole thing? Hes going to get himself killed. A beeping sounded in the room and he froze and his heart hammered against his ribcage. It was his laptop. He had already been sent a message and now that the machine was on, he was receiving it immediately. Mixed emotions clashed within him and he stood and walked to the computer slowly, typing his password and opening the message. It was from J. He read it. 01. The search for you and 02 has lessened enough that hiding is no longer completely necessary. In addition to this, OZ seems to think both of you are in space with pilots 03, 04, and 05, and have minimized security on all bases on Earth in favor of maximizing it in space. A meeting between many prominent figures in the OZ Corporation will take place at 21:00 this evening in Rome. I have given the exact coordinates at the end of this message. Go and do what you do best. Heero took a breath. Mission accepted. He read the coordinates and committed them to memory. He also calculated the time he would need to get to the destination. He and Duo were on West side of the North American Continent. The time difference between the two places was not in his favor. Its Nine a.m. here now. That gives me two hours and forty minutes to get there if I leave in twenty minutes. Thats not much time. He looked at the time on the message. He sent it early this morning when the power was still out. Shimatta. I can do it, but there is no room for error. He stood and stretched his back. He mentioned 02. I wonder if Duo got a similar message. He opened his door and walked down the hall to Duos that was open to show the other pilot brushing his hair. Heero stared in awe. He had never seen Duos hair down before. The long chestnut strands were wavy from the braid and shone and rippled in the light like water. He wondered if it felt as soft as it looked. Duo saw him in the doorway then, jumping slightly in surprise, and walked forward and closed it. Heero closed his eyes. All right, I deserved that. Duo. What? He sounded very angry. I need to talk to you, open the door. I thought you hated talking. Duo responded and the door didnt budge. I dont have time for these games. I just got a message. Duo sighed on the other side of the door and opened it and looked at him. His hair was knotted by his elastic band behind his head. This better be good. Heero nodded. Ive been given a mission. Duos eyes widened. Really? He nodded. When? Im leaving in twenty minutes. Heero replied. You were mentioned. I think you should use the house computer and see if you received any orders as well. Duo nodded and ran down the hall to the office and fired up the machine. Heero headed for his room and took off all his clothes, Unfolding his wings and quickly getting into the shower. He washed his body, but paid careful attention to his wings, letting them stretch as much as possible and cleaning them as best he could as he had no idea when the next time he could do either would be. When he was done, he turned the water to a cooler temperature and tilted his head back so the water hit his face, letting it run over him. He let himself have thirty seconds that way, but knew he couldnt afford more time than that. Shutting off the water, he shook his wings as well as he could, still in the thankfully large shower stall, shaking off most of the droplets that clung to his feathers. Securing a towel around his hips before stepping out into his room, he repeated the process more vigorously, hearing his feathers rustle with the motion, and shed the last bit of moisture from them before stretching the wings to his sides as far as he could. The tips of them touched the walls on either side of the room, but he left them that way for a full minute before collapsing them, drying his body, and getting dressed. Wearing dark grey jeans, a dark grey tee-shirt, and black shoes, he threw everything he owned in his duffel and put it on the bed. Unsure of if Quatre was going to come back unexpectedly soon, he gathered every feather he found and shoved them into the pouch in the side of his duffel to be burned later as he didnt have the time right then. His eyes landed on the small Gundanium box on a strong chain that was the only other thing in the pouch. Reaching forward, he removed it and opened it. The two white feathers of slightly different shapes, both varying in size only slightly but both roughly twelve centimeters long and white as his own were still there, safe and sound in their Gundanium locket. He sighed as vague images and sounds assaulted his mind for a moment and a brief pain throbbed near his heart. He could still tell which feather was which. It made it harder. They were the only personal items he had. Everything else had been supplied to him as a soldier and he only had the lend of it. He had to return it when he was done fighting. These, however, were his. And if anyone ever tried to take them, he would kill them. Get moving. They wouldnt want you to be standing here like this instead of fighting. He thought to himself as he closed the box and tucked it safely away. As he exited his room, he saw Duo walking out of his own, his hair braided back and his duffel over his shoulder. You, too? Duo nodded. Rome? Heero nodded back and they both walked quickly down the stairs and out of the house, Duo locking it behind them. They jogged to the hangar, got in through the door and climbed into their Gundams. Heero opened an audio com link. We have two hours and forty-one minutes to get there. He informed Duo as he hit the button Quatre had given him to open the door and walked his Gundam towards it. Whats the rush? Duo answered as he followed him out. We could be fashionably late. Heero stood outside the hill and waited for Duo to do the same before he closed it. Iye. We want to get there right after everyone has arrived, before anyone has the chance to get insulted and leave early. He lifted off and Duo did the same as they both headed in the same direction. Gotcha. Duo responded. Im not going to transform Wing. Heero said. I believe they will be heavily guarded with so many important people there and we will both need to work together so we must arrive at the same time. Uh-huh. Duo agreed. But say you show up a little early and get their attention and I come in from the opposite direction. Theres nothing wrong with getting the drop on them from both sides is there? Heero smiled to himself. Sometimes he LOVED how Duo thought. * * *
^_^ Hope you liked. I SWEAR that questions WILL be answered(I'm not TOTAL
evil) however,
