Summary: Duo's reminiscing
"Petals In the Breeze"
"He loves me. He loves me not."
Yes, as foolish and girlish as the whole thing seemed, I am actually
plucking feather petals to determine whether or not the object of
my affections cared anything for me. It had become a tradition of mine
whenever I disappeared in the fields behind one of the schools where
Heero and I were hiding out.
In the thick of the war, there were few and far between opportunities
in which I could escape from the world. The field allowed me that
opportunity, with grass and flowers so tall that I disappeared under
their shield when I lay on my back as I was that afternoon.
Having a field like this of my own brings back those old memories.
Back then, I never had anyone I could really talk to about when it
came to my confusion over Heero and my feelings for him. Silly
as it seemed, plucking flowers seemed better than just keeping
everything in.
Nowadays, the wars are long behind me. I actually have my own home
in the countryside in the middle of nowhere. Life is good...
actually, it's really damn good after everything it had
taken to get to this point in my life.
"He loves me not," I mutter as I pluck another white
petal to let it drift in the air. "He loves-" My words pause along
with my hand when I see that there are only two petals left to pluck. Doing
the math in my head, I knew I was going to end on 'He loves
me not.'
Out of nowhere, a hand appeared to tug away the last two petals at
the same time as a familiar voice declared, "He loves you."
Blinking in surprise, I turned my head up to smile at
the upside-down face smirking down at me. "Thanks, 'Ro,"
I grinned. "Not that I ever questioned it."
Just shaking his head in amusement, Heero stretched himself out over
my head in the grass to bend in for a deep kiss, a response
that I happily return whilst pulling his head down.
Yea. I forgot to mention that we've been living together for the last
five years. We've been married for three. So, as I mentioned, life
is really damn good nowadays.
