It was possible the prof had been grasping at straws in the end. He had nothing to lose at the time especially when he was staring down the wrong end of a gun, but Duo doubted it. Hed been impressed, even amused, to find Duo onboard in the first place, and Duo wasnt being immodest to think that G knew hed lose more than the mobile suit. It seemed fitting in the end to be piloting one after all the pain it had caused him to steal one from the Alliance for the sons of bitches who had invaded the only real home hed known. Hed been fueled with the desire to make them pay dearly and G had known that and used it to his own advantage. Duo could almost admire that. They were supposed to go to earth disguised as shooting stars. They probably would have done better to wait a little longer, to take a chance on being confused with the April Lyrids or the Eta Aquarids. It probably didnt matter. Operation Meteor turned out to be not so secret. All it took was one person on the rebel side to decide they didnt like the looks of things or thought better of it and went running back to OZ with what theyd seen and heard, and presto, so much for a covert operation. They might not have known exactly what they were looking for, but they knew it when they found it. The Gundams fared a lot better in their fall to earth than a meteroid would. A true meteor shower was a show of nothing more than streaks of burnt up rock and cosmic dust leaving a trail in the wake of an object that, if it were lucky, would still have enough mass to impact the earth. The mobile suits had to enter the atmosphere and if their carriers hadnt been able to withstand the red-hot re-entry temperatures, the entire operation would have been doomed. At least thermal protection systems had been engineered successfully long before the colonies had been built. If they hadnt, there wouldnt have been colonies to begin with. Duo rubbed his head. Sometimes thinking in circles like this made his head hurt and he scowled. He hoped the others were having a better time of it than he was. That was a lie, actually, while he did honestly hope they were doing well and were safe, he would hate to think that any of them was actually out having fun while he was here doing nothing more than waiting. Patience wasnt exactly his best virtue.
